Fort McMurray Real Estate
Fort McMurray real estate is about 450 km northeast of Edmonton, and is known
as Alberta's Northern Light. It is the major commercial, cultural
and recreational centre for the oil sands region as well as being
the headquarters of The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Approximately
40,000 people in 11 different communities are governed by one municipal
council and mayor located in Fort McMurray real estate.
Fort McMurray has been settled since the fur trading days
of the 1700s, it has periodically flourished as a centre for the
barging, logging, salt production and fish packing industries. Fort
McMurray transformed itself into a modern, sophisticated city which
can be traced directly to the impact of oil sands development. Since
the 1960s, when the current Suncor Energy Inc., Oil Sands Group
began large-scale commercial bitumen production, the community has
undergone exceptional growth.
The dominating industry is oilsands extraction and upgrading. Thousands
are employed at Syncrude Canada and Suncor Energy where together,
they provide about 20 per cent of Canada's energy needs. While oil
sands activity commands the local economy, there is a growing focus
on the areas of forestry, small business, manufacturing and tourism
industries.
Today, Fort McMurray has a population just over 41,000 people and
it's land mass covers over 63,000 square kilometers.
